Milton’s population has erupted over the past decade, expanding by 56.6-percent, according to the Toronto Star via Stats Canada. This recent surge in population has made Milton the fastest growing community in the country.
Many of Milton’s new residents are young families who have embraced the clean air and quiet-living that makes our town such a wonderful place to buy a home and raise children.
Milton’s expansion will increase prosperity and provide opportunity.
With population growth comes infrastructure and development. Milton’s most promising project — the project that will greatly benefit its young families — is the proposed Milton Education Village.
According to Milton.ca, the concept for the Milton Education Village came to life in 2008 — a “memorandum of understanding” between the Town of Milton and Wilfrid Laurier University was established.
The plan is to create a breeding ground for entrepreneurial opportunity and higher education within Milton’s borders. The entire idea is centred around the creation of the Innovation Centre — a place where entrepreneurs and start-ups can receive the necessary skills and support needed to succeed in business.
Laurier intends to build a campus right in the heart of the Milton Education Village. It will be fully integrated with the Milton Velodrome and Innovation Centre, which will combine to form a new downtown core. Thousands of jobs will be generated to handle all the new students; not just University faculty but also the service industries like bars and restaurants, shopping, medical, etc.. But the future opportunity for our youth is the greatest benefit of the Milton Education Village.
The Town of Milton released a statement on April 2, 2013, declaring that the proposed Wilfrid Laurier University campus budget has been submitted to the Government of Ontario. The proposal highlights the importance of post-secondary education to a local economy and infrastructure growth.
As the project continues to evolve, the future of Milton’s youth is promising. By the time our next generation of young entrepreneurs and highly-skilled professionals mature to adulthood, they will have the option to explore opportunity and succeed right here in Milton. Sure, some will move away to start a brand new chapter of their lives but many more will find start their new chapter right here in Milton.
Our kids can earn University degrees without needing to travel out of town. As parents, think of the money you’ll save on dorm-room fees alone if your kids receive their post-secondary education at Milton’s Laurier campus.
And property value will increase with the Milton Education Village in town. The Innovation Centre and the Velodrome are one-of-a-kind, unique to the region, providing Milton with some very niche selling points in the future.
The Milton Education Village is located on 400-acres of land, encircled by Derry Road, Tremaine Road and Britannia Road, and runs adjacent with the Niagara Escarpment.
It will contain new bus routes, shoppes and restaurants. The people of Milton will enjoy an expansion that further establishes our town as a major centre for business in Southern Ontario. Big corporations will be attracted to Milton’s new developments. With the introduction of big corporations comes job opportunity and shopping convenience.
Milton’s growing up, and its children have a bright future with the Milton Education Village in the centre of town.
