Milton is a magnificent place to raise a family, which is a concept not lost on the thousands of young couples and young families who have made their home here over the last decade.
According to Stats Canada findings: Milton is the fastest growing municipality in Canada – its population has increased by 56% since 2006. What this means for the Milton real estate market is: now’s a good time to consider moving to Milton and becoming part of a youthful community with prevalent family values and growing infrastructure.
Plus, thanks to its close proximity to the 407, Milton isn’t as far away from the old neighbourhood as you may think if you’re considering a move West from Toronto, York Region or Peel.
The biggest news in Milton these days is the proposed plan to build a sizable addition to the Milton District Hospital located at Derry Road and Bronte Street near the centre of town.
According to the Town and Halton Healthcare Services, Milton will be getting a 320,000 square-foot hospital addition which set to begin in roughly one year’s time and be completed by 2018. The addition will likely further increase the value of Milton real estate as more high paying jobs are created, and will provide the town’s inhabitants with enhanced world class medical care in their own backyard.
The proposed hospital extension intends to double the amount of available beds for pregnant mothers – good news because the existing hospital has recorded 948 births over the past two years – according to insideHALTON.com – and that number will only continue to rise.
But it’s not merely expecting mothers who will benefit from the Milton District Hospital addition – kids grow and they play and sometimes that leads to bumps and bruises. Fortunately, the hospital extension will house a state-of-the-art MRI Machine – a rare commodity among hospitals in Southern Ontario.
The Milton District Hospital addition is also expected to contain an intensive care centre, surgical inpatient units, diagnostic imaging and an ER in case of emergency.
Milton is expanding rapidly. With a population of 84,362 as of the 2011 Canada Census (though we unofficially passed 100,000 early last year) and a median age of 34.1-years-old, the proposed plan to build an addition on Milton District Hospital is a no-brainer – and even a “must have” – for the Region of Halton. The Town of Milton and the Ontario Government are funding the project. Milton’s population is largely comprised of hard-working men and women in the prime of their lives. A Stats Canada study released in 2011 revealed that 67.8% of Milton’s population is between the ages of 15 and 64.
Furthermore, the proposed hospital addition will create job opportunities for doctors, registered nurses, medical technicians, custodians and administrators, as well. And that’s to say nothing of the industry that will blossom around the hospital: transportation, retail and professional services for a rapidly expanding community.
The hospital expansion is only the beginning. Halton Healthcare currently owns nearly 29 acres surrounding the Milton District Hospital, providing ample space for continuous expansion of medical care and specialty services. As the community steadily trends upward there is opportunity for further industry to spring up in the surrounding area. One such place is already on its way – The Milton Medical Arts Centre, which will be located right beside the hospital. edit: Due to multiple medical buildings having been built in close proximity to the hospital and the apparent limited demand for medical units, the Milton Medical Arts Centre was cancelled and the site will be developed differently.
The Milton District Hospital addition creates an opportunity for Milton real estate inquirers – young families looking for a friendly, on-the-rise community that is not too far from the City of Toronto. Milton is it – the GTA’s best kept secret.
